Thomas A. Gorman was born in 1926 in Valley Stream New York. He had 4 siblings. 3 brothers and a sister. His 3 brothers were Bernie Gorman, Joseph Gorman, and my Great Grandfather Raymond Gorman. His sister was Mary Gorman who just died. Thomas had 5 kids and his wife was Marylyn Munson. While playing in the majors he became best friends with Whitey Ford Hall of Fame pitcher for the Yankees. Whitey Ford was his son’s Godfather and the best man in Thomas’s wedding. Thomas A. Gorman died of heart failure in 1992.
Thomas A. Gorman played 8 seasons in Major League Baseball. 3 seasons with the Yankees and 5 years with the Kansas City Athletics. He was a right-handed, starting pitcher and relief pitcher. He played from 1952 to 1959. He won 2 World Series in 1952 and 1953 with the Yankees. In 1955 with the Kansas City Athletics, he had the second most saves in Major Legue Baseball with 18. He played with Hall of Fame players such as Mickey Mantle, Phil Rizzuto, Yogi Berra, and Hall of Fame manager Casey Stengle. He retired in 1959 with the Athletics. He finished with a 5.1 career WAR, a 36 and 36 career win lose record, a 3.77 career ERA, 289 career games played, 33 career games started, 44 career saves, 689.1 career innings pitched, 321 career strikeouts, and a 1.303 career WHIP.
Thomas A. Gorman also was in the navy in the early 1940s. He was stationed in Australia in 1945 and 1946. He also had an offer to play Quarterback for Notre Dame when he came back home, but he decided to play for the New York Yankees.
Thomas A. Gorman was a baseball player from Valley Stream, New York who played for the Yankees and Athletics. Who also was in the Navy. I will always be a Yankees fan because of this.
